DAHIL time-out muna sina Juday at Sarah Geronimo sa syuting ng Hating Kapatid, focus naman sa kani-kanilang work ang mga leading men nila.


Si Luis na leading man ni Sarah ay busy sa pagkakampanya sa tatay niyang si Edu Manzano, na tumatakbong vice-president ngayon.


Aminado si Luis, nagulat daw siya sa desisyon ng tatay niya na kumandidato bilang bise-presidente.“Nasa Las Vegas ako noon at nanonood ng laban nina Manny Pacquiao at Miguel Cotto sa MGM Garden Arena, when I got 50 text messages from friends. Sila ang nagsabi sa akin na tatakbo nga raw ang daddy ko,” kuwento ni Luis.


“Then, I got the text message from Dad, simply telling me that he’s running for vice-president. Sa text message niyang `yon, parang sina­sabi lang niya na pupunta siya sa grocery. Ganun lang kakaswal niyang sinabi sa akin,” dugtong na kuwento pa rin ni Luis.


Pag-amin pa rin ni Luis, hindi siya ready sa ibinalita sa kanya ng tatay niya noon. Pero, sure naman daw siya na alam na alam ng tatay niya ang pinasok nito, at bilib na bilib siya sa lakas ng loob at tapang ng tatay niya.


“My dad will not enter a battle na hindi siya ready. He is ready for its consequences. I believe in his integrity. I know his intentions. I believe he is sincere,” paliwanag pa rin ni Lusi.


Well, aware naman si Luis na hindi madali ang laban na ito na pinasok ng kanyang tatay. At kahit ako nga, sinabihan ko na si Edu na hindi talaga madali ang laban na ito.


Pero, bilang isang masunuring anak, suportado niya ang tatay niya. Unang-una, alam naman daw niya ang track record ng kanyang tatay.


Si Edu ay exposed to military discipline nu’ng 17-years old pa lang siya. Sumali nga siya sa U.S. military at apat na taon siyang nagsilbi roon.


He became first chair of Optical Media Board, a government agency tasked with combating optical media piracy. At pinaniniwalaan ko nga na ang mga Muslim na­ting kapatid ang nagpanalo kay Edu noon, ha!


Ipinagmalaki rin ni Luis ang mga awards ng kanyang tatay. Bilang public servant daw ay naparangalan si Edu bilang Outstanding and Unblemished Vice Ma­yor mula sa Natio­nal Press Club during his term as Makati vice-mayor.


Edu established the Anti-Child Abuse and Pornography (ACAP) Foundation after finding out that many of the pirated DVD materials the OMB had confiscated from retailers, featured children, including Pinoy and Pinay toddlers as young as five in lurid sex scenes.


Kung mananalo si Edu, ang edukasyon daw ang isa sa kanyang tututukan.


“To be globally competitive as a country, we must address head on the major challenges in our economy, particularly weak government finan­ces and low levels of investment, failure of economic growth to translate to poverty when elected, I will come up with a national strategy that would prioritize public spending on education, health and housing; improve quality of governance so cost of doing business is low and extend which account for 90 percent of labor employment,” say ni Edu.

Luis Manzano not discouraged by Angel Locsin's statement

Sa huling interview ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) kay Angel Locsin ay marami ang nagulat nang sabihin nito na pinahihinto na niya ang ex-boyfriend niyang si Luis Manzano sa sobrang pag-e-effort na manligaw ulit dahil masaya na raw siya bilang single ngayon.



Pinagtakhan ng iba ang biglang pagbabago ng isip ng dalaga. Dati kasi ay sinasabi nitong naa-appreciate niya at ayaw niyang balewalain ang effort ni Luis para magkaayos silang dalawa at hindi siya nagsasara ng pinto for a reconciliation.



Upang makuha ang reaksiyon ni Luis sa sinabi ni Angel ay minabuti ng PEP na kausapin ang TV host-actor sa ASAP XV kahapon, February 14.



"Ang kay Angel lang naman, ang sabi niya, huwag akong sumobra-sobra ng effort and that's perfectly understandable. Basta ako, ang masasabi ko lang, I'm trying to work things out, I'm trying to win her back, and I'm trying to fix things between us," sabi ni Luis.



Hindi ba siya nasaktan o na-discourage sa sinabi ng kanyang ex-girlfriend?



"Pag gusto mo ang ginagawa mo, bakit ka mapapagod?" balik-tanong niya. "If you really want to pursue something, kahit na ano pa humarang sa iyo, you go for it. Basta ako, if I want to do something, gagawin ko."



Sa biglang pagbabago ng isip ni Angel, hindi kaya napagod na ang aktres dahil kahit wala na sila ni Luis ay away-bati pa rin ang nangyayari sa kanila?



"May mga instances na ganun na minsan away-bati kami," pag-amin ni Luis. "Maybe that's one factor kung bakit nagkaganito kami. But for clarity on that issue, siya na lang ang tanungin ninyo coz I can't speak on her behalf."



Sa interview ni Angel ay nagsalita din ito na iniingatan lang daw niya ang kanyang sarili na huwag nang masaktan muli. Aminado naman si Luis na may mga pagkakataon na nasaktan at nagkulang talaga siya kay Angel.



"That's for her to say, siguro it's about how we will understand it. Gaya nga ng sinabi ko, it's really up to her to clarify that issue. But if that's the case, siguro naman kahit papaano, we can't blame her o kahit na sino pa man taking care of one's heart.



"Alam ko na nasaktan ko siya kaya nga sinabi ko sa E-Live, gusto kong bumawi sa mga pagkukulang ko. There were instances na nasaktan ko talaga si Angel, pinagsisihan ko yun at alam niya yun. When you work hard for something and you lose it, you will work harder to get it back. You'll appreciate it so much more than the first time around," saad ni Luis.



Nali-link ngayon si Angel sa vocalist ng Parokya ni Edgar na si Chito Miranda at sa CNN Hero na si Efren Peñaflorida. Ayon kay Luis, hindi siya nakakaramdam ng selos o nate-threaten sa mga ito.



"Hindi," sagot ni Luis. "Kasi kahit nung kami pa ni Angel, nakakasama namin si Chito. And si Efren naman, nakasama na rin siya. Ayokong isipin ang ganung mga bagay because nagiging too cerebral, thinking of so many factors. Nawawala yung purity ng intentions mo."



CAMPAIGN AD. Lumalabas na ngayon sa TV ang campaign ad ng stepfather ni Luis na si Ralph Recto na tumatakbo ulit bilang senador. Dito ay kasama si Luis at ang mommy niyang si Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos at ang half-brother niyang si Ryan Christian Recto. Ang tanong tuloy ng marami, paano na ang ama ni Luis na si Edu Manzano na tumatakbo namang vice president?



"My Dad will come up with his own very soon and naghihintay lang ako ng tawag kung kailan gagawin. Wala namang whim kung willing ako o hindi. Gagawin ko talaga yun as support for my dad," pagtiyak ni Luis.



PILIPINAS GOT TALENT. Bukod sa ASAP XV ay abala rin si Luis sa upcoming talent show ng ABS-CBN na Pilipinas Got Talent. Kasama niya rito si Billy Crawford as co-host.



"Kagagaling lang namin in Batangas for Pilipinas Got Talent," banggit ni Luis. "Napakainit ng pagtanggap ng mga Batangueño. And regarding the audition, lagi naming sinasabi ni Billy na expect the unexepected. When you least expect it, kung sinuman ang taong yun, they will blow you away sa galing nila. At the same time, yung iba talaga, walang ginawa kundi magpatawa lang on stage."

Luis Manzano hopes Angel will be his Valentine

TV host-actor Luis Manzano isn’t giving up hope on Angel Locsin.

Luis is doing his best to win back the actress, visiting her in her house and sending her gifts at no given occasion.

This Valentine season, Luis is hoping that he’ll spend it with Angel.

“May konting plans (sa Valentine). Let’s see kung mangyayari. It’s still with Angel,” he told "Showbiz New Ngayon" televiewers on February 11.

But he’s not quite sure if his plans on Valentine's Day will materialize. He says it all depends on the availability of Angel.

“I’m not sure kung may lakad siya pero there’s something in store. I’m still trying to work it out. I’m not sure kung may mangyayari,” he said.

Luis has been working out at the gym more than an ever. All for Angel?

“Hindi naman, wala naman. Ako, nagpapayat for my self. Wala lang, para maiba,” he reasoned out.

Luis and Angel broke up July of last year for still undisclosed reasons. Many speculations surfaced including the existence of a third party on the part of the actor. Luis was romantically linked to his ex-griflriend Anne Curtis, then to showbiz newbie Maricar Reyes.

Late last year, CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida made public his admiration for Angel. He started visiting the actress in her house and went out on a few dates with her. But it was not a romantic date as they were joined by kids that he’s been supporting.

Angel, in a prior interview, explained that all she could offer Efren was friendship, since she felt she wasn’t ready to enter another serious relationship.

“Hindi naman ako nagpapaligaw kay Efren. Right now, we’re good friends lang talaga. Minsan pumupunta siya sa bahay kasama yung mga kids. Minsan lumabas kami. Nanoood kami ng sine kasama ang mga bata. 'Yon naman 'yong usapan din namin, eh. Ayoko 'yong kausap ko si Luis (Manzano) tapos may kausap akong iba. Ayoko namang magpaasa ng tao. Right now, ayaw ko munang pumasok sa isang relationship,” Angel said in a previous SNN interview.

Luis Manzano says drama is more demanding than action

Luis Manzano had to give up his hosting job in Entertainment Live for ABS-CBN's new talent show, Pilipinas Got Talent.



"I will be gone for six weeks, since I have to go around the Philippines for PGT," Luis said in an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) recently. Luis will tour with co-host Billy Crawford to scout for Pinoy talents who'll peform in front of celebrity judges Kris Aquino, Ai-Ai delas Alas, and former ABS-CBN president Freddie M. Garcia.



Aside from PGT, Luis is slated to start a movie with the Young Superstar Judy Ann Santos and Popstar Princess and box-office queen Sarah Geronimo. "The title of the movie is Hating Kapatid," informed Luis about his movie with Juday and Sarah which will be under Viva Films.



GOING TO THE GYM. Despite his busy schedule, Luis always makes it a point to go to the gym to workout. Luis does this not only to keep his muscles in proportion, but because of the health benefits of keeping one's body in shape.



But not too many know, that aside from lifting weights and running the treadmill, Luis trains in the Thai martial art, muaythai or Thai boxing, a striking art that uses the "eight limbs" (for punching, kicking, elbowing and kneeing). Luis revealed that he's been honing his muaythai skills for four years now.



In fact, in one interview with ex-girlfriend Angel Locsin, she was thankful Luis did not accept her challenge to spar with her in muaythai. Angel has been doing muaythai after her Asian Treasures stint, and was trying to see how serious Luis was in courting her then.



"Buti na lang, di ako pinatulan. Magaling pala sa muay si Luis," Angel said in that interview.



But how good is Luis really in muaythai?



"Ah, that's for my coach to answer, he-he-he!" Luis humbly said.



Videos of Luis doing padwork and light sparring somewhere in YouTube show the young actor—who used to be greeted by his Star for All Seasons and now Batangas Governor mom with "I love you, Lucky" in her show VIP (Vilma In Person) back in the '80s—really knows how to throw those punches, kicks, elbow and knee strikes.



MMA TRAINING. And recently, Luis revealed he's now into mixed martial arts or mma. This style of combat sport, which was popularized by the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), involves the use of punching, kicking, elbowing, kneeing, throwing and different submission moves like choking and arm locking. Luis has been training under Anthony Chua of Gold's Gym.



Since Luis is so much into combat sports, PEP asked him if he has any plans of competing in local versions of the UFC, like the Fearless Fighting Championships (FFC) and the Universal Reality Combat Championships (URCC).



"If I have the time, I would like to compete," Luis replied. The actor knows a few hours of grappling, striking, and strength and conditioning in the gym will not win him even one round in a professional mma match.



The same problem with time applied to his love life last year after his breakup with the very civic-minded Angel. He has no time to woo other girls or even go on a date.



"I was too busy. And I was out of the country [after the breakup]," related Luis.



Luis was out of the country then for the shooting of his movie with mom Vilma Santos-Recto and John Lloyd Cruz. In My Life, his blockbuster drama movie with his mother and Lloydie, was partly shot in New York. The movie saw Luis doing heavy drama with the Star for All Seasons and the young Box-Office King.



DRAMA IS MORE DEMANDING. Luis admitted that despite his height, his built, his looks and his skills that read "Action Star," he is more at home and finds more challenge in doing drama, especially, the heavy ones.



"I think drama is more fulfilling. It has more demands, more emotions used," explained Luis.



The 28-year-old actor's preference to do drama is not surprising. He is, afterall, the son of two top caliber and award-winning actors: Vilma Santos and Edu Manzano, both of whom shine brightly, especially, when doing drama scenes.



But right now, both his parents are in a different world—the world of politics. While Ate Vi had already served his constituents and is planning to serve them more by winning a reelection, Doods, plan to serve a greater number of people once elected as the second most powerful man in the country.
PEP asked Luis if he is going to set aside his busy schedule to help his parents come campaign time.



"I cannot. Good thing my parents both respect my schedule and my commitments," Luis said.



Speaking of commitments, PEP asked him about his experience as a new "certified concert artist." Luis, together with his Kanto Boys co-members—John Lloyd, Billy, and Vhong Navarro—performed live in Cebu last January 9.



"It was successful!" enthused Luis. "I was nervous beforehand, but I was able to feed off from the people. Iba talaga ang mga Cebuano. Then a big sigh of relief and accomplishment after."



HIS EX'S ISSUE. Recently, Angel was reportedly involved in an argument with a Twitter user over a fake Wikipedia-like site. The site irritated Angel because of the insulting description and definition of Filipinos. When Angel called for action from her fans and friends to ban the site, the Twitter user argued with the actress which led to the Twitter user's nasty blog entry against Angel.



PEP asked Luis for his reaction regarding this recent issue his ex-girlfriend got involved with. Luis has been reported to be wooing Angel again.



"Well, it's disappointing for some people to react that way, when all Angel was doing was defending our race," Luis said about the issue. "It goes to show how much she values our heritage while some just don't care or take it for granted."
