Dennis Trillo tries to emulate the Drama King

Dennis Trillo, who, for the third time, is recreating a Christopher de Leon movie role for GMA-7’s adaptation of Lino Brocka’s “Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak,” aspires to follow the career path of the Drama King.

“Kasi hanggang ngayon Christopher de Leon pa rin s’ya at lalo pa s’yang gumagaling kaya gusto ko [ay] maging katulad n’ya,” he says of the award-winning actor who was introduced in 1974’s “Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang.”

Dennis recalls that he became an instant fan when he watched Christopher in “Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon,” and his admiration deepened when he took on his idol’s old roles for the TV remakes of “Kung Mahawi Man ang Ulap,” “Magdusa Ka” and now “Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak.”

He shares that he’s awed by Christopher’s sincerity, intensity and dedication to the acting craft. “’Pag pinanood mo s’ya, natural na natural [ang acting], parang gano’n talaga ang ginagawa ng mga taong pino-portray sa movie,” he points out.

Dennis also takes his hat off to Christopher for turning his turbulent experiences into a reservoir of emotions that aids him in bringing his characters to life – an approach that the younger actor, who made his mark in the biz via the 2005 war drama, “Aishite Imasu,” likewise tries to follow.

“Ang mga pinagdaanan kong experiences [ay] nagpatibay sa akin bilang tao and at the same time nagamit ko na pinaghuhugutan ng emosyon na dati [ay] hindi ko kayang gawin kasi hindi ko pa nararanasan,” he elucidates.

Joining Dennis in the main cast of GMA-7’s newest daytime soap are Jennylyn Mercado and Al Tantay. Also part of the cast, is Sandy Andolong, who announced during the February 4, 2010 press conference that Dennis was the perfect choice for the role originated by her husband.

“S’yempre ando’n ang pressure kasi asawa n’ya ‘yun, kabisado n’ya ‘yung ginagawa tapos hindi ko pa pinanood [ang movie],” replies Dennis when asked what it was like working with Sandy. “Pero kahit gano’n, gusto ko na makita pa rin n’ya na kahit hindi ko magaya or mapantayan ang ginagawa ni Sir Christopher de Leon, gusto ko lang na maramdaman n’ya na meron akong effort na ginagawa para hindi ako mapahiya sa kanya at sa lahat ng mga nanonood.”

But there’s one path that Christopher is trying to tread that Dennis swears he’s not interested in: politics. “Mag-e-endorse na lang ako ng candidate o kaya magpe-perform sa mga campaign,” says the star of “Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak,” which touches on some political issues.

Sarah Geronimo all for John Lloyd-Bea reunion

Pop Star Sarah Geronimo is not at all threatened by the reunion of former love team John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.

Bea and John Lloyd are paired anew in Star Cinema’s “Miss You Like Crazy.” Their last film together was three years ago in “One More Chance.”

“I’ve always been a fan of their tandem. Noon pa lang sa ‘Maging Sino Ka Man,’ talagang sinusubaybayan ko na sila,” Sarah said on the matter on “Showbiz News Ngayon,” Feb. 8.

It is recalled that Sarah and John Lloyd themselves starred in two blockbuster movies namely “You Changed My Life” and “A Very Special Love.” In 2008, the two were crowned Box Office King and Queen by the Guillermo Memorial Scholarship Foundation which strengthened belief that their love team is a force to reckon with.

Still, the Pop Star acknowledges the strength of Bea and John Lloyd’s tandem.

“Iba talaga ang ma-i-o-offer ng tandem nila eh. Kasi kami, mas comedy. Medyo kilig-kilig. Mas sa reality sila, ‘yung mga things, ‘yung sufferings ng pagmamahal.

“Kaya nga ayokong magmahal, eh! Hindi joke lang. Masarap magmahal. Kasama na rin diyan ang sakit,” she said.

Sarah was recently chosen to lead the Katropa campaign movement started by Sen Manny Villar’s daughter, Camille. As its spokesperson, the Pop Star will travel around the country to inspire the youth sector.

“Very happy ako na nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na makatulong sa community namin. Suportahan po natin ang Katropa Movement para sa magandang kinabukasan ng kabataang Pilipino,” she said.

Camille detailed: “Iikot kami sa mga campuses at mga community. Magbibigay kami ng seminar sa resume writing [and] personal development.”

Sarah was first choice to pitch for Villar’s youth campaign because of her exemplary credentials and for being one of the wholesome young celebrities today.

Angelica Panganiban wants to settle down with boyfriend Derek Ramsay someday

Angelica Panganiban may not be able to spend this Valentine's Day with her boyfriend Derek Ramsay. The sexy young actress told the media that she could be busy promoting her newest primetime show on ABS-CBN, the local adaptation of the Mexicanovela Rubi.

"[Nasa] trabaho ako. Kasi February 15 na ito ipalalabas, so buong February 14, nasa promo kami," the 23-year-old actress said during the grand launch of Rubi held at the Eastwood City in Libis, Quezon City last night, February 8.

Since the couple are both busy with their showbiz commitments, Angelica said that they haven't talked about how they're going to spend February 14.

If ever, she said, they might go with random plans like they did last year. "Gusto lang talaga namin kasi, like last year, nag-charity event lang kami, mga ganun-ganun lang. Masaya na kami sa ganun. Itutuloy namin 'yon week after ng Valentine's Day," said Angelica.

READY TO SETTLE DOWN? In a previous interview with Derek, he mentioned about having kids. Is Angelica open to this idea?

"Siyempre, mahirap naman magsabi na hindi 'yon mangyayari soon. Malay natin, hindi ko alam. Hindi ko talaga puwedeng sabihin na mangyayari siya next week or ano. Mahirap magsabi. Basta masaya lang kami sa relationship. Hindi naman maiiwasan ang mga gusto namin or mga plano naming sa buhay, di ba?" said Angelica.

The former child star also pointed out that she and her boyfriend of three years should be ready if ever they decide to settle down.

"Siguro kapag sinabing ready, hindi naman ibig sabihin na bukas magpapakasal na kami, di ba?" Angelica said. "As much as possible, gusto naming maayos ang lahat. So, kung darating kami sa point na magse-settle down kami, wala namang problema at siguro wala namang kokontra. Kaya lang, nasa amin 'yon, kung gaano na ba kami kahanda sa isa't isa."

Angelica does not deny that marrying Derek has already crossed her mind.

"Bakit naman ako mag-i-invest ako ng emotions sa kanya ng ganito katagal kung hindi naman pala siya ang taong gusto kong makasama sa buhay?" she said.

Richard Gutierrez and PEP finally find peace

Movie and television star Richard Gutierrez and editors of the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) website led by editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon reached an amicable settlement today, February 9, 2010, regarding the libel suit filed by the actor over an article that appeared in the PEP website on March 29, 2009.

The PEP article alleged that Gutierrez was involved "in a heated squabble with Michael Flores" during the birthday party of director Mark Reyes, an incident that turned out not to have happened and which story the website has since admitted to have been a mistake.

PEP Editors Jo-Ann Maglipon and Karen Pagsolingan and reporter Ferdinand Godinez have personally apologized to the complainant for the erroneous publication of the article. Gutierrez has accepted the apology, and the two parties have mutually agreed to amicably settle the libel case.

As part of the settlement, PEP issued this public apology:

"The Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) hereby reiterates that Mr. Richard Gutierrez was never involved in any "heated altercation" or "tutukan ng baril" with Michael Flores or with any other individual on 29 March 2009, during the party of Zorro director Mark Reyes, contrary to an article briefly uploaded on its website on the same day.

"PEP editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon, managing editor Karen Pagsolingan and staffwriter Bong Godinez acknowledge their error; repeat their assurance that they have no malicious agenda against Mr. Gutierrez; and apologize for the publication of the article and their failure to get his side of the story and for the hurt it has caused him and his family."

The settlement was reached during a meeting between Gutierrez, Maglipon, Pagsolingan, and Godinez at the office of Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera, on which occasion Maglipon, in her behalf and that of the others in her staff, read the above apology.

Also in the presence of the Secretary Devanadera, Gutierrez accepted the apology, and later signed an affidavit of desistance.

The parties then shook hands in the presence of the Justice Secretary and media representatives to effectively end the libel suit.

It will be recalled that the Department of Justice recommended the filing of a case for Libel against Maglipon, Pagsolingan and Godinez for the subject article. With the affidavit of desistance signed, Secretary Devanadera declared the case closed.
